Network adapters missing in Device Manager After reformating hard drive, re-installing Windows XP & Ubuntu (Linux), I am dual booting on my Dell Dimension 2400. I can access the internet in the Ubuntu but I can not access the internet with Windows XP.

Like I said, no Network Adapter shows up on the Device Manager. But if I go to Device Manager "View" menu and enable "Show hidden devices ", then it starts to show some Network Adapter elements; but these look like "additional" network adapter features such as: "NVIDEA NForce MCP Networking Adapter Packet Scheduler Mini-port" and so on.
You will need to install the Chipset drivers first and Network Card drivers later. The IPaddress that you have pinged is that of the localhost and will work, even when there are no network cards detected.
