Jan 20, 2014 · Okay, so I was browsing through the adapter settings in windows 7 and came across a Wiresless Conenction 2 which is a Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. I don't remember seeing this on the list before, and it suddenly seems to have appeared. I have a unique issue with Windows 10 - Microsoft Virtual LAN, Wireless Network (Intel Centrino Advance-N 6205 plus two others that say wirels connection 2 and wireless connection 3. Latter two are described as Microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter. Could anyone explain just what the purpose of the miniport adapters is? Another question. After you done that click on sharing and choose wifi. Then save and exit. Make sure your wifi is turned on. In your notifications icon at the bottom right of the screen click it and turn on your wifi.

Update the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter from this link from Microsoft and check if it helps. Try the steps recommended below. Open a command prompt on your PC and type the following commands. The VirtualWiFi Virtual Miniport should have the name “VirtualWiFi MM SSID” depending on the mode and SSID of the underlying adapter. Finally, do the following to check if VirtualWiFi will work with your wireless adapter. See if the VirtualWiFi Virtual Miniport gets a valid DHCP address for the network you are currently connected to. If you can find the Microsoft wifi direct virtual adapter in device manager without disabling/reenabling the wireless network connection, then simply enable the Microsoft wifi direct virtual adapter from the device manager. The aim is to enable Microsoft wifi direct virtual adapter/ or Microsoft Virtual hosted network adapter.

If a new hotspot is created, a new virtual adapter with an ordinal index will appear in the system (Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2, Microsoft WiFi Direct Virtual Adapter #3, Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #4, etc.), and it will use the configuration of the old hotspot.
I disabled my Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport network adapter from Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections. Just right clicked on the miniport nic and clicked disable, and its gone.
